George Pomuț – The Romanian who wrote history for America and the world

During the official visit to the National Bank of Romania, the delegations participating in the World Conference of the Supreme Councils of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite witnessed the launch of the "George Pomuț" Project - a moment of high symbolic significance.

George Pomuț, Romanian-American general, hero of the US Civil War and diplomat, played a decisive role in the acquisition of the Alaskan territory by the United States in 1867. An example of courage, diplomatic vision and devotion, he remains a living bridge between Masonic values, Romanian-American friendship and the spirit of sacrifice in the service of the common good.

The Supreme Council of the Romanian Royal Army of Romania, through the Sovereign Grand Commander, Stelian Nistor, unveiled, in the presence of the Governor of the National Bank of Romania, Mugur Isărescu, and the President of the Romanian Academy, Ioan-Aurel Pop, a portrait dedicated to George Pomuț, created by the artist, Valentin Tănasă and exhibited in a spectacular Florentine frame, which will be donated to the United States Congress.
